Guide
Pick the shape first. A 4-3-3 needs wingers who can beat a full-back and a holding midfielder who stays home; a 4-2-3-1 needs a real number ten; a 3-5-2 lives or dies on its wing-backs. Choosing the formation first tells you which players the lineup actually needs, and stops you from squeezing four strikers into a midfield.
Goalkeeper, centre-backs, the defensive midfielder and the striker are the positions that hold a team together. Settle those first, then add full-backs and wingers. If two of your best players compete for one spine position, that is where a formation change or a bench decision comes in.
A lineup with two left-footed centre-backs or three players who all want the same pocket of space looks fine on paper and awkward on the pitch. Drag players around in the builder until each one has a clear role — the pitch view makes gaps and overlaps obvious.
Once the XI looks right, run it through the match simulator against a real opponent. A lineup that concedes three goals every time is telling you something. When you are happy, export the lineup as a PNG and share it with the group chat before kick-off.
